Theme and Background
Leprechaun Goes to Hell is inspired by Play’n GO’s other online slot, Leprechaun Goes Egypt. And probably Fire Joker as well, given the whole ‘fire’ imagery they’re going for. Leprechaun is also similar to Fire Joker in that they both have a jackpot built into them. Don’t get confused though, Leprechaun is not a progressive jackpot slot, it’s a fixed jackpot within the slot itself. The popularity of this latter slot was so great that it inspired the software developer to come up with this latest slot. Only in this one, instead of heading over to Africa, we’re descending down into the depths of hell. Things are getting really heated up in here.
Evilene, the ruler of hell, and the Leprechaun seem to have some kind of courtship going on. Don’t ask us who came up with this idea, and why – we’re not the designers or developers. We just review. The entire point of the slot is to fill up the jackpot thermometer during the bonus round, i.e. the heat things up as much as possible. Whether this is because Leprechaun is set in hell, or because of Evilene, we don’t know – we’ll leave it up to you to decide. You’ll read more about how the thermometer works further down below.
Leprechaun Goes to Hell: the Pros and Cons
|Pros||Jackpot bonus round which can payout as much as 50000+ coins||Free spins awarded in both bonus round||Re-spin feature put in place to help player trigger Infernal bonus round (where the jackpot is)|
|Cons||The theme and concept is lacking, to say the least||Typical of Play’n GO slots, the main game pays out really low amounts||Bonus rounds are not easily triggered, despite the re-spin feature|
Leprechaun Goes to Hell revolves around three main symbols: the Evilene Wild symbol, the Leprechaun Wild symbol and the Pot of Gold scatter symbol. Together these symbols basically are responsible for the major payouts you’re going to get from this slot.
But, it’s good to say, that like most Play’n GO games – Leprechaun doesn’t pay much at the base game. However, the bonus games more than make up for this. Let’s just say, there are a lot of possible free spins that can be won from this slot. And we haven’t even started talking about the jackpot yet.
The Leprechaun Wild, along with the Evilene Wild, is the highest paying symbol in the slot. It substitutes all other symbols to comprise winning combos, except for scatter symbols. You’ll recognize it by the big leprechaun image on it.
If you manage to land both the Leprechaun and Evilene Wilds in the same winning payline combination, your win will be doubled. How does that saying go? A match made in heaven? More like hell, in this case.
The Evilene Wild symbol is a little different from the Leprechaun symbol because it also operates as a scatter. This symbol can only appear on reels 2, 3 and 4. If the reels land three of them across all three of these possible reels, you’ll automatically trigger the Infernal Bonus Round and 10 free Infernal Spins.
Also, don’t worry if you keep on getting just two Evilene Wilds. Leprechaun Goes to Hell comes with a re-spin feature which grants the player a second chance at triggering the bonus. If you only get two Evilene Wilds, the third reel where no symbol landed will re-spin for the chance of spinning the third Wild. Decent of the slot to do that.
Pot of Gold Scatters
Three Pot of Gold scatter symbols will literally set the reels on fire and also trigger 10 free spins with a 2x multiplier throughout. That’s not even the best bit – you can retrigger the free spins during the bonus round by landing another 3 Pot of Gold scatters during the free spins. It’ll grant you another 10 free spins and increases the multiplier by 2! This can keep happening for a total of up to 50 consecutive free spins and a maximum multiplier of 10x.
Infernal Bonus Round
During this particular bonus round, Leprechaun Goes to Hell will transform from a 5 reeler, 25 payline to 3 reeler, 5 fixed payline slot. Your mission throughout this entire round is to raise the temperature on the thermometer as high as possible. The higher you go, the more jackpots you activate. Each win will raise a random amount of temperature, so honestly there’s no way of knowing when you”ll hit the jackpot. There are, however, 4 definite levels of ‘sizzling’ jackpots. Higher bets = more heat = more jackpots.
In addition to all this, getting a Heart Bonus scatter symbol on the middle reel during the Infernal Bonus round will give the player one 1 extra free spin in addition to the 10 free spins. Again, like the previous bonus, this can be done up to a maximum of 50 consecutive free spins.
Payouts and Wagering Limits
The paytable above is of some of the highest paying symbols in the slot. As you can see, they’re not that high paying. Again – this is normal for medium variance slots, and normal for Play’n GO slots. It means that, unless you manage to hit that sweet jackpot, you’re at most going to be winning a few more coins than your wager per spin. Which isn’t exactly the most exciting of prospects. The lowest paying symbol is ‘J’ and ’10’, and landing three of their winning combos on the reels is worth a measly 0.03 coins.
The greatest part about the main game payouts is when the player gets the Leprechaun symbol and the Evilene symbol in the same combo. This, as we saw above, doubles your win. Obviously, the most attractive feature of this slot is not so much the main game – but the possible jackpot wins and the amazing free spins + multiplier combo in the Pot of Gold bonus round. If you’re lucky enough to activate the thermometer, than you’re pretty much set for the gameplay of Leprechaun Goes to Hell.
With a payout rate of 96.54%, which is above average, you’re actually likely to make a tidy sum over a long period of playing this slot. But, perhaps it’s not the best choice for high-rollers and risk takers.
Also, here’s how the jackpots work:
|Jackpot||Temperature||Seed||Average hit values||Contribution|
So, even if you don’t hit that fiery 2000°C mark, you’ll still in with a chance to win any of the other smaller jackpots.
Leprechaun Goes to Hell: Final Verdict
The base game might not pay out well, but those special features would get any iGamer raring to go. With so many free spins, multipliers, and huge lump sums of real cash to be won – we can’t wait until this slot is launched on the 17th of August.
