Valley of the Gods Slot LogoAncient Egypt was a time of great mystery, great discoveries and great riches. There have been many tributes to this much respected civilization. Especially to the spiritual beliefs that the Egyptians held – the Egyptian mythology attracts as many fans as the Greek kind does. Only last year (2016) there was that really bad movie – Gods of Egypt – which, although a flop, was pretty true to Egyptian mythology. Well, Yggdrasil is doing the same thing with its new Valley of the Gods slot. Only, they’re doing it way better than the movie. Join the god of the sky and the god of death in this 5 reel, 3125 ways to win video slot of medium volatility. Theme and Background

Valley of the Gods Slot Symbol - Anubis

There are many, many generations of Egyptian gods in mythology – but probably two of the most famous ones are Horus, who looks like a hawk and is god of the sky, and Anubis, who looks like a dog and is god of the death. In the slot, they’re color-coded as being red for Horus, and blue for Anubis. If you’re up against these guys, you might be in trouble. But with them on your side, nothing can stop you. Valley of the Gods emulates everything you’d associate with Ancient Egypt: Horus, Anubis, pyramids, sand, hieroglyphs and scarabs. Even cats.

But what honestly blows us away about this slot is the level of animation they’ve put into it. It comes with an opening scene which we initially thought was out of a film, because the detail on the sand is insane. Then a bunch of beetles rustle out from under the sand and scuttle along to find their respective statues (which will make more sense when we explain the gameplay below). Then, the slot itself comes with an interactive reel-set that truly shows how much work has gone into this thing.Valley of the Gods Slot Symbol - Horus

Yggdrasil has never produced bad slots – but some of its slots are by far better than others. The Valley of the Gods slot is definitely one of its better ones. We couldn’t recommend it enough just based on the innovative design and concept alone.

Valley of the Gods Slot: the Pros and Cons

ProsLimitless respins just for landing combination wins in the main game, which is amazing no matter how you look at itExtra lives are combined with multipliers to extend the bonus round for as long as possibleMultipliers which can keep growing, and which can get you that more than half a million coin win!
ConsMedium volatility slots mean less big wins, and more consistent small wins – which might not be everyone’s type of gameplayIt can be difficult to increase the multiplier, and so super big wins are not that frequent

The Valley of the Gods slot is a 3125 ways to win slot. That means that in order to calculate your wins, you’d have to add up all the symbol wins together after each spin. Having multiple ways to win instead of fixed paylines works in the player’s favor, because it means many more winning combos and many more wins. This is especially great given that Valley of the Gods is of medium variance, so you’d need those frequent small wins to keep you going.

The gameplay is very fresh and exciting. You’re not going to find any Wilds or Scatters in this slot. Instead, Valley of the Gods comes with a really awesome system in which bonuses are triggered and paid out. Gameplay is mostly based on the characters of Horus and Anubis, and the scarabs. They’re probably the most important elements in this entire video slot. With that said, let’s take a closer look at those special features.

Respins

Possibly our favorite feature of this slot is that whenever you land a winning combo on the reels, you’ll be awarded with an automatic respin. Yep, simple as that. As long as you keep landing those winning combinations, you’ll keep on getting respins. That’s like having a +1 free spin for every win you get. Doesn’t get much better than that for online slot games.

Destroying Blockers

If you take a look at the images above, you’ll notice that the main game comes with 12 scarab tile symbols, each one of them occupying a different reel position. In the slot, these are called ‘Blockers’. Your main mission is to destroy all 12 of those blockers so that you can activate the special ‘Lives’ and ‘Win Multipliers’ features .

How do you do that? Easy. Whenever you land a winning combination, the winning symbols will release a tiny golden scarab bathed in light. That tiny golden scarab will destroy the nearest Blocker. Once all the Blockers have been eliminated, you’ll activate the Lives and Win Multipliers feature. The tiny golden scarabs will also turn either red or blue, and they’ll contribute to either the Lives feature (represented by Horus, red) or the Win Multipliers feature (represented by Anubis, blue).

Lives

Once all the 12 Blockers are destroyed, the two statues to the right and left of the reels will light up and the Respin bonus round will start. You’ll automatically be given 1 Life, which basically means 1 Respin. However, if you manage to collect another 5 red scarabs during the Respin, another Life will be added. This can continue indefinitely if you keep on getting enough red scarabs to fill up the ‘meter’. Although realistically, that isn’t going to happen. The slot is probably programmed to not let that happen.

Win Multipliers

Anubis is your guy if you’re looking for Multipliers. When you eliminate the Blockers, you’ll start off with a standard 2x multiplier. But, again, if you keep filling up the Multiplier meter with 5 blue scarabs or more, then the multiplier will keep increasing by x1. This is where you can get some serious big wins, since you’re not only getting Respins, you’re also getting Multiplier bonuses.

Payouts and Wagering Limitations

Valley of the Gods Slot Paytable

Following that break down of how the gameplay for this slot works, you guys can probably see why this slot is so exciting to us. It’s not your typical slot game, and it has some awesome opportunities for winning. Even if it’s not particularly big wins. In fact, you can take a look at the paytable up here and see that the two highest paying symbols only cash out 500 coins when you land 5 of a kind. That’s not ‘low’, but it definitely isn’t high.

With an RTP of  96.2%, Valley of the Gods is just above average in terms of payout rate. In the 100 or so spins that we gave this thing, it hit those bonus features quite frequently. Surprisingly, destroying the 12 Blockers isn’t that hard. The only thing which has a low hit rate is the Multiplier meter. Your chances of getting red scarabs to fill up the Lives meter are much higher than getting blue scarabs to increase the multiplier. But it’s still an extremely engaging slot to play.

Valley of the Gods Slot: Final Verdict

If we haven’t made it obvious, we’re really into this slot. It’s innovative, has an interesting theme, it’s executed really well, and it doesn’t suck your bankroll dry. You might actually find yourself winning a tidy sum for yourself at the end of the day.
